New clutch available soon?

Our weblog hunter "R2D2" has infiltrated the clutch department to bring us the latest undergoing secret development update...secret

He was able to capture some images during his infiltration, and it seems Mr. Y was secretly working on a new clutch development:

It looks nothing like any clutches that we have in our line-up, but it must be our original since it uses Alumite treatment and there was no name / logo on the cover.

Just by looking at it, the clutch seems to be a pull-type...

While he was trying to obtain more information from Mr. Y, Big-Boss has joined Mr. Y and started a little technical discussion about the clutch, and so it was time for R2D2 to escape... runsweat01

All he knows is that it is a pull-type clutch for Non-Japanese vehicles.  (Could it be for RR drive-train models...)

Let us hope that R2D2 will bring us more updates soon. wink

"Nostalgic 2 days" in Yokohama

We have just attended the Nostalgic 2 days event at the Pacifico Yokohama convention center through Feb. 25th to 26th.

Why were we there for?  Well, we thought it was the perfect event to publicaly announce and to celebrate the revival of our legendary TC24 enginewink

A championship car in South America

Congratulations to Speedaddicted,

One of our dealers in South America has won the Central American GT3 Championshipsign01

The vehicle competed in this championship was 1997 Toyota Starlet Glanza V with 4EFTE turbo engine, equipped with an OS Giken twin plate clutch kit and a SuperLock LSD.

The last race was held at Autodromo La Guacima in Costa Rica under shifty weather conditions.  But they were able to complete the race and won the championship for the 2011 season.scissors happy01

Cayman has MR (mid engine, rear wheel drive) layout where as 911 has RR (rear engine, rear wheel drive) layout, so the Cayman transmission case is facing the opposite direction compare to 911.

As far as the layout goes (front of the car to the back):
Cayman: Engine → Clutch → Differential → Transmission
911: Transmission → Differential → Clutch → Engine

Evolution X L.S.D.

Tommy has a new update for us.smile

One of the teams participates in the Super Taikyu (endurance race) came to us for the LSD development for their Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.
It wasn't a simple task, but our Tommy loves a challenge...

There will be 24 larger disks in the LSD to achieve the maximum disc capacity.

So he has designed OS made outer case, and redesigned the front LSD to hold much larger disks to further enhance its performance and durability.

Time has come

Hello everyone,

Mr. RS has another update for the progress of the new Alfa CRGK.

It seems that he has worked all night for countless nights (taking nice long naps instead...coldsweats01) to complete the prototype model.

It's time for us to send this baby to a new home for all the testing to come.weep

 

It was such a rough road for the development of this CRGK.

However, Mr. RS is very pleased of his work and satisfied of how it turned out.

 

It will be sometime before the final production.

We are all crossing our fingers for the best outcome.

If all goes well, then you might see this baby on the market sooner than you think.

 

For now, it is time for Mr. RS to move on to a new development project, or simply assemble more OS-88 for those who's waiting for their own.good

A supplementary history class

Thank you all for attending our history class. (Those who haven't, the class is still in session.  Don't make a teacher wait.) smile

It seems many of you are curious about our very first product sold to the public "TC-16" engine.  So we have decided to provide just a little bit more information to satisfy your curiosity.

TC-16 used Nissan L4 cylinder block, and was originally build for Nissan Sunny 110 (Datsun 110).  The engine was also fitted to Nissan Bluebird 1800SSS (Datsun 510), and should be compatible with other L4 engine equipped Nissan models...

Here's comparison table:

  • L18 (4 cylinder): displacement - 1770cc, 115hp/6000rpm, 112lb-ft/4000rpm
  • L20: (6 cylinder): displacement - 1998cc, 130hp/6000rpm, 123lb-ft/4000rpm
  • TC-16 MA2: displacement - 1888cc, 232hp/8500rpm, 150lb-ft/6800rpm Rev limit @ 10,000rpm

FYI, our LSD technician Tommy has revived the TC16 years ago, and it stunned everyone at Historic Automobile Festival in Twin Ring Motegi circuit where a beastly Nissan S30 Z with 2.9L Nissan-Works engine couldn't even pass this 510 sign03

Alfa Romeo 105 type CRGK update

On our last entry, we have informed you that the new CRGK for 105 type Alfa Romeo is in development.

It seems our CRGK / Transmission specialist Mr. RS has made some progress since then, and here's the latest update.new

If you are familiar with Alfa cars, then you should know what this is...

Yep, it's a prototype Shift-fork (Selector fork).good

More than 50 years have past since the original transmission was introduced, we are trying to revive it by using better materials and applying the modern technology.

A bracket is also in development along with the shaft. This CRGK will have a shorter shift stroke compare to the original one.

It might take a while before we see the complete kit since Mr. RS is quite a busy man.  But sure to inform you with more updates in the near future.

OS Giken history class

For today's class, let us go back in time to learn how OS Giken started.
(Don't worry, I'll make it brief to avoid any tears of boredom...)coldsweats01

Although OS Giken is mostly known for the performance clutches and LSD's by many, it made its name by developing its original DOHC 4-cylinder 4-valve race engine in 1971.  As a matter of fact, our very first product sold to the public was this race engine.

In 1981, the legendary DOHC L6 24-valve engine "TC24-B1" was created.  We actually had a press conference to advertise the engine, and this was unheard of at the time for an aftermarket parts manufacture to have a promotion in this scale.

Here it gets interesting.  TC-24 was an amazing engine, however, no clutch could transmit its power to the transmission at the time... so we developed performance clutches to take care of the problem by ourselves.

Now that we have the clutch to transmit its power to the transmission, next step was to transfer the power to the wheels... so we developed SuperLock L.S.D. to take care of that problem.

In stock now!

Good news from our transmission division.notes

Mr. S informed us that long waited out of stock parts have finally arrived.

Here they are, Slider (Dog ring) and Shift fork (Selector) for OS-88 Sequential Transmission.

They are expendable items, however, somewhat difficult to mass-produce.
As a result, we always have a limited supply of these items in stock, and limiting how many OS-88 unit our technician could assemble.

Come to think of it, it has been 9 years since OS-88 was first introduced.
We have sold over a couple hundred units thus far, and now many units are requiring overhauls and are taking parts away from new units to be assembled...

Mercedes-Benz Mclaren SLR

OS Giken has LSD's available for many of Mercedes models, however, has never crossed our minds to have one available for such a rare model... Mclaren SLR until one of our customer requested for his own.

A rear member (picture above) looked to be made out of a duralumin material, and many parts are attached to the rear member.

I have taken its differential apart for its measurement, and was shocked to find out that they use an open differential.coldsweats02  It is true that the vehicle is equipped with a Brake LSD, so they might thought that there is no need for a mechanical LSD... but I personally believe a super car like Mclaren SLR needs a high-performance LSD.

I have tested and found that there is a tendency for many of high powered FR vehicles to lose traction on right rear wheel first when accelerating from a stop.  When it happens, the traction control system will kick in.  For Mclaren SLR, the brake LSD will kick in first to control the wheel spin, and then the traction control will control the throttle.  This is good for the safety, but not so good for... car dash

With our TCD installed, the vehicle could send all of its engine power/torque to the ground, and could take off without the interference of its traction control.  It also improves high speed stability.

I highly recommend our LSD for all the high powered vehicles, but not recommend anyone to be a speed demon... bleah

Ferrari 550 Maranello LSD

Hello everyone, this is Mr. T from OS Giken LSD lab.

A customer has requested to build a custom LSD for the 550 Maranello awhile back.
It sparked my interest due to its original design, so I built one without considering its cost...moneybag

OEM differential has such an unique design that it bolts onto a carrier by placing an external ring gear in between.

OEM differential was designed to attach an external ring gear, so I also designed the ring gear (see picture below) for the custom LSD.

Here's an installation picture.  The customer was 120% satisfied with the custom LSD's performance for greatly improved traction.
This 550 was equipped with twin-turbo V12 engine.
